After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the State University College at New Paltz, in New York I worked as a photographer and graphic designer for many years. I had always wanted to teach so I went to Wayne State University and earned an M.A.T. in Art Education. I have been an Art instructor here in Clawson since 2008.
I have always loved to draw. My first canvas was the underside of the kitchen table! when I was 2. In recent years I have explored different fabric printing, painting and color resist techniques including Adire (pictured above), a traditional Western Nigerian art form. When I am creating art I like to experiment and see where the materials take me. Often unexpected results become "happy accidents"!
Singing and playing guitar is another interest of mine. I participate in a number of song circles, including one called The Mingos. The group includes a cellist, as well as guitarists and songwriters. We play everything from Beatles, to traditional folk and jazz. There is nothing like making music to lift the spirits. I highly recommend it!
I have two wonderful daughters. My oldest, Julia, is an archaeologist and works at a museum. Madeline, my youngest, is following in my footsteps and majoring in Photography. We all love to bicycle and participate in group rides around the Metro Detroit area whenever possible! This summer's most interesting ride included a tour of Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project, Hamtramack's "Disneyland", Eastern Market, and a community garden in Detroit.
